Osteoarthritis of the Knee (घुँडाको जोर्नी खिइने समस्या)
The Regular Club Meeting No. 1495 (28 of RY 2025/26) was held on 23rd January 2026 at Hotel Goodwill, Lalitpur, featuring Guest Speaker Dr. Animesh Joshi, Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, who delivered an insightful session on “Osteoarthritis of the Knee (घुँडाको जोर्नी खिइने समस्या),” a problem commonly seen in people over 50.
Dr. Joshi explained the primary causes, risk factors, symptoms, and treatment options for knee osteoarthritis (OA). He highlighted that the major reasons behind OA include aging (as cartilage repair slows with age, making OA more common in older people), previous knee injuries, excess body weight, genetic factors, repetitive knee-straining occupations, joint abnormalities, and gender (women, especially those over 50, are at higher risk).
According to him, while early-stage OA can be managed with lifestyle modification and medical treatment, Knee Arthroscopy or Total Knee Replacement (TKR) is only a long-term solution in advanced cases. TKR is a surgical procedure in which the damaged knee joint surfaces are replaced with artificial implants to restore function and reduce pain.
The session was highly informative and well received by participants, including ex-Rotarian Mr. Sho Koruiwa from Japan.
RC Yala sincerely thanks Dr. Animesh Joshi and all guest participants for their valuable presence and contributions, which made the session meaningful.
The President informed the members that the 5th Club Assembly will be held on Friday, 30 January 2026, and requested the active participation of all members. He also announced that a blanket distribution program will be conducted on Tuesday at Dapcha, initiated by the Rotaract Club.
