Vocational Awards Ceremony
On November 1, 2024, the Rotary Club of Yala hosted a Vocational Awards Ceremony, featuring District Governor Rajendra Man Sherchan as the chief guest, alongside special guests PDG Yogendra Man Pradhan, PDG Dilendra Raj Shrestha, and Ward 16 Chair Nirmal Ratna Shakya. The event, held at Kati Daboo in the heart of Patan Durbar, was attended by approximately 150 individuals, including Rotarians, Anns, Rotaractors, and other distinguished guests. RC Yala President Dharmendra Raj Shakya presided over the ceremony, warmly welcoming all attendees.
This year’s awards marked a return after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. District Governor Mr. Sherchan presented awards across six vocational categories. The inaugural award, the RC Yala Vocational Award, was bestowed upon Tirtha Maharjan of Chapagaun for his decades-long dedication to crafting traditional bamboo boxes. The second award, the Pushpa Sirapa, recognized Darshan Shilpakar for his exceptional carpentry skills, particularly his contributions to the reconstruction of earthquake-damaged temples. A Deep Appreciation Certificate was awarded to Chhatra Bahadur Kayastha for his significant contributions to Nepal Bhasa literature. The Indra-Krishna Appreciation Certificate, the fourth award, was presented to R.M. Nakarmi for his achievements in the field of music. The fifth award recognized Mohan Pd Nakarmi for his restoration of a 104-year-old fire brigade vehicle, while the sixth Appreciation Certificate honored Narayan Devi for her contributions to Newari cultural dance.
Each award recipient also received a cash prize of 10,000. In his address, DG Rajendra Man Sherchan praised RC Yala’s commendable initiatives and acknowledged the honorees for their valuable contributions to their communities and heritage preservation. Award recipient R.M. Nakarmi expressed his gratitude to RC Yala for the recognition. The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Rtn Twinkle Nyachhyon and Rtn Jitendra Nakarmi, the event coordinator.
